"Rooted in Truth" for 2010 and Beyond!

To start 2010, we here at FCA-MKC spent the weekend of January 1st-3rd with college students who are leaders on their campuses for our annual College Leadership Retreat. We had an awesome weekend of digging into God’s Word, being ushered into the throne room of God in worship, dialoguing about what God is doing in and through us, praying over each other and our ministries, challenging each other to go deeper in our walks, eating Chic-fil-A, fostering community through crazy team building activities, and laughing a whole bunch. It was a great way to start of the double digit year of 2010.

Our theme for the weekend was “Rooted in Truth.” We talked about recognizing the lies the world and the enemy continually feed us and rejecting those lies boldly (John 8). We then talked about the importance of replacing those lies with God’s Truth, and being people who are truly rooted in His Truth. This is the only way we will walk in victory in our Christian lives.

Kyle Blake, a worship leader from the Gathering Community, did a phenomenal job of leading us in Spirit-led times of worship. FCA staffers Russ Street and Amy Vanarsdall took on the tag-team role of leading the teaching times and challenging the students to be rooted in Truth. FCA’s very own Sharing the Victory Magazine office manager, Ashley Burns, was the creative genius behind all our crazy-fun team building times. Who knew clothespins could be catalysts for so much fun! And the real heroes of the weekend—the huddle leaders—were volunteers from around the area, who spent all weekend doing life with the college students, loving on them, speaking words of encouragement over them, listening, praying with and for them, and sharing the wisdom they have learned throughout their journey with Christ.

On top of that, we had other awesome FCA volunteers who helped with all the details from PowerPoint to delivering food, taking pictures, registration, and the list goes on. We had three churches which partnered with us as well. Christ Community Church of Leawood helped underwrite our event with a very generous gift. Noland Road Baptist Church and First Baptist Lee’s Summit helped provide food. All of these awesome God followers combined helped create an atmosphere where it was obvious that the Spirit of God was moving and working to help these college athletes indentify lies they were believing and replace them with God’s Truth.
