FCA Power Lunches are Back!

Ryan Succop from the Kansas City Chiefs was the featured speaker at the FCA Power Luncheon held November 10th at the FCA National Support Center. Over one hundred people enjoyed the luncheon held in the FCA Hall of Champions which overlooks the Truman Sports Complex.

The Power Luncheon was a renewal of a past FCA-Metro Kansas City tradition started by current FCA-MKC Camp Director Bill Stutz back in the 90’s. The luncheons are a way for people in the Kansas City area to have a time of fun and fellowship while hearing about the local FCA Ministry and listening to a featured speaker. Some of the past featured speakers included:

-Former Major League Baseball All-Stars Harold Reynolds, Joe Carter, and Mike Sweeney.
-Sports Broadcaster Dave Armstrong
-Legendary “Voice of the Detroit Tigers” Ernie Harwell
-Former Kansas City Chief Gary Spani

This 2009 version of the Power Luncheon was hosted by Metro Sports Personality Dave Stewart. Dave shared with the crowd his own history with FCA over the years. FCA-MKC Director of Community Ministry Steve Bowman gave a quick overview of the current FCA Ministry and introduced the FCA Staff and Board members in attendance. Dave then introduced Ryan and shared the story of how Ryan went from the NFL’s Mr. Irrelevant to being Mr. Impact for FCA.  Ryan was then presented with a framed FCA Mr. Impact jersey.

Ryan shared with the crowd about his Draft Day experience and with a bit of humor explained how that day didn’t come into focus until he spent some time in prayer. He then spoke about his own faith journey, his time spent with FCA in South Carolina and in Kansas City, and how God has impacted him and allowed him to serve in many different ways. After Ryan answered a few questions from the group, Dave Stewart introduced FCA’s President and CEO, Les Steckel. Coach Steckel spoke to the crowd about them becoming a part of the FCA Team. Coach shared the need for people to come alongside and help the FCA Staff continue to impact the lives of athletes and coaches here in Kansas City.

Plans are already beginning for the next Power Luncheon to be held in February. FCA-MKC looks forward to each new installment of this past successful tradition. Please continue to look for updates at
