The 2008 Weekend of Champions, March 14-15, drew over sixty area students to MidAmerica Nazarene University for fun, worship, fellowship and teaching.  Fred Bouchard, Head Football Coach and Assistant Principal at Harrisonville High school spoke three times throughout the twenty three hour event, sharing his own story, challenging the students know their strengths and make an impact at their schools and empowering them to listen and obey God’s call in their lives.

Friday night kicked off with worship, competitions and Buzz groups.  Students had relay races, played speed ball and competed in half court basketball.  Buzz groups, or breakout sessions, were presented on three topics: Using FaceBook to Represent Christ, Being a Godly Woman/Man, and Bible 101.  The evening wrapped up with snacks and a late night showing of “Facing the Giants.”

On Saturday, the fun continued with more competitions, worship, Huddle time and speakers.  Both Huddle Leaders and FCA-KC Staff shared their testimonies with the students, and our worship leaders, Bill and Kerri Shiflett, taught the group new silly songs.  In the final assembly, we were blessed to see Bouchard’s two adopted sons and a pair of their friends, all from Uganda, share a celebration dance from their country.  Their story was a great reminder of God’s call to impact the world, and their dance demonstrated the joy of celebrating God’s blessings in our lives.

FCA-KC extends a special thanks to those who so generously donated their time, talents and treasures to make this weekend happen: speaker Fred Bouchard; worship leaders Bill and Kerri Shiflett; our amazing college Huddle Leaders; and KC Staff Member Dave Bertholf, who coordinated the weekend.
