The Fellowship of Christian Athletes volunteers were out in full force to welcome 124 golfers as they arrived at Loch Lloyd Country Club for the 12th Annual FCA-KC Women’s Golf Classic. It was a beautiful day! The Lord blessed the event with a pleasant, partly cloudy day after a night of intense storms in the Kansas City area, and plenty of fun and fellowship was had by all.
After registration, the ladies enjoyed a wonderful breakfast provided by Chick-fil-A. Donna Noonan, National Director of the FCA Coaches Ministry and former collegiate golf coach, gave a short putting clinic and recommended a few drills that might take a few strokes off participants' games. After volunteer and golf committee member Polly Erickson asked for the Lord's blessing, the ladies headed out to their respective tees for the shotgun start. Teams of four competed in the scramble and enjoyed longest drive and closest to the pin contests along the way.
An excellent lunch was served in the banquet facilities at Loch Lloyd after golf was completed. To everyone's delight, dessert was provided by Sheridan’s Frozen Custard. The ladies matched their raffle tickets to those posted on over 25 great donated items. Silent auction items were on display for the ladies to look over and bid on before, during and after lunch, and FCA-KC is pleased to announce that this year’s auction was the most profitable in the 12 years of the tournament's history. We are extremely grateful for the generosity of those who contributed items for the auction and raffle. Our success is due in large part to the great people and businesses that provide sponsorships and the needed funding to host an event of this size.
After lunch, Becky Kinney, Field Representative of Greater Kansas City FCA and chairwoman of the event, welcomed the ladies and introduced the Charter members of the first Women's Golf Classic committee of 1997. FCA National President Les Steckel was introduced and shared a welcome and some thoughts about the value of the women's ministry through this event. Sarah Brannock, a summer SALT Team intern for FCA-KC, interviewed Lauren O’Hearne and Kristin Stidham, two campers from FCA-KC's 2007 Missouri Junior Golf Camp held at Osage National Golf Club at the Lake of the Ozarks, MO, about their highlights and most memorable lessons from camp. And Judy Stewart, Women's Golf Tournament Committee member, honored Becky for her service and ministry through FCA.
Connie Beeck, Tammy Harmon, Shirla Montgomery and Sheri Rehmer emerged victorious from a very close tournament and won a spot the 2008 FCA National Scramble Championship held in November at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
FCA-KC once again thanks the volunteers, donors, sponsors and committee members that made this event so special and enjoyable for all whom attended. God was glorified and we felt His pleasure on this day of fun, fellowship, competition and encouragement.
