Karla joined the FCA Kansas City staff in January 2008.  A graduate of Truman State University, she ran track and field for two years of her college career.  Karla helped to start the FCA Huddle on Truman’s campus, as well as helping with the Kirksville High School Huddle each week.  In the summer of 2005, she interned with Mid-Missouri Area Representative Scott Ashton and has volunteered at the Mid-MO Leadership Camp since the summer of 2004.  Before joining the FCA-KC staff team, Karla spent time as an Admissions Counselor for Truman State University and as a project manager for a local marketing company.  Karla plays on women’s and co-ed volleyball leagues in Kansas City and has coached girls club volleyball in the area.

Karla on FCA's Mission: I love and truly believe in the mission and ministry of FCA for two reasons.  First, because there are so many natural parallels between sport and the spiritual journey.  "Train yourself in godliness," "run the race with perseverance," "fix your eyes on the unseen," "run in such a way as to win the prize"...over and over again the Bible makes metaphors that illustrate the fact that we are all spiritual athletes, living and training for eternal glory that far outweighs the temporary victories and defeats of our earthly life.  Second, because I believe that athletes and especially coaches are among the most influential people in our society.  Personal experiences, media coverage, and sales statistics all testify to this fact.  I believe that God wants to minister to and through coaches and athletes not only because of His great love for us all, but also because of their unique position in society and potential to impact multitudes with the great news of what Jesus has done.
